Mark your calendars, Watertown! On Wednesday, April 29th, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Watertown Middle School is transforming into a hub of innovation, curiosity, and local talent for our annual Community STEM Night.

Whether you’re a student with a passion for coding, a parent curious about what’s happening in our classrooms, or a resident interested in the booming life science sector in our backyard, this is an evening you won’t want to miss. It’s free, family-friendly, and designed to show off the incredible STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) opportunities right here in our community.

Explore the Interactive "STEM Fair"

The cafeteria will be buzzing with hands-on activity. You can wander through interactive tables featuring our WPS curriculum - from the wonders of chemistry to the logic of mathematics.

Some of the night’s highlights include:

  • The WHS Robotics Team: Watch live demonstrations and see this student-built machine in action!

  • Career & Tech Ed: Get a closer look at our Medical Assisting and Engineering programs.

  • Community Partners: Meet the team from HATCH Makerspace, visit the Watertown Free Public Library’s station to get your own library card, or try out a green screen with Watertown Cable Access Corp.!

  • The Future WHS: Meet the consulting firm behind our new state-of-the-art high school set to welcome students this fall and see the latest project updates.

Plus, you can enjoy delicious refreshments prepared by the talented students of the WHS Culinary Department, and meet Watertown Public School graduates who are now studying or working in STEM fields. They are living proof of where a Watertown education can lead!

The Watertown Business Coalition will also be there to introduce you to its members in horticulture, education, and life sciences, proving that Watertown truly is a "STEM Town."

Featuring 3 Panel Discussions

If you want to go beyond the display tables, head over to the auditorium starting at 6:15 PM for a series of 20-minute presentations:

  • 6:15 PM | The State of Life Sciences: Sam Ghilardi of Watertown Bio will present the first-of-its-kind 2025 Watertown Life Science Industry Report and give an update on today’s landscape. If you’ve ever wondered what’s happening in all those new labs across town, this is your chance to find out.

  • 6:35 PM | The Freight Farm: Did you know WPS students are farming in a 40-foot shipping container? Learn how the WPS Freight Farm uses high-tech hydroponics to grow fresh greens for our school cafeterias!

6:55 PM | Green Energy Careers: Hear how a $250k grant from MassCEC is bringing a Green Energy Career Awareness program to Watertown’s students in conjunction with Lemelson-MIT, preparing them for the sustainable careers of the future.
